When you are travelling, you can still have control over the environment in your home.
I had heard lots of comments about the Nest Thermostat. I liked the idea that I could control the temperature in my home while I was away, and also monitor the temperature and humidity when we are traveling. Also, if it is chilly outside when leaving work, I can check the temperature in the house on my smartphone app and adjust it so it is comfortable when I get home.
As you can see from the photo, when you adjust the temperature, it tells you how long it will take to achieve that temperature. Very nice feature.
The install is very straight forward, they even supply the screwdriver you’ll need to attach the wires to the connections. The thermostat can be programmed to a schedule as with a conventional thermostat, but you can also just set the thermostat to your desired setting during the day, and the thermostat will remember your preferences and create a program just for you. Very nice indeed!
The thermostat is a bit pricey, but based upon the energy savings I have seen this winter, it will pay for itself in a reasonable amount of time.
The only issue I had with it is related to a new router I was trying out. Since the Nest connects to your home network, the router is important. I tried out the Asus AC68U router and it would not connect with the Nest. I had to download third-party firmware to correct the issue. The problem was with the router, not the Nest.
Overall I am very satisfied with the Nest.
If you have the Nest, please feel free to comment.
