We visited Paris and deliberately stayed in the Rue Cler area.
It is a wonderful outdoor market area, and the locals abound there. If you like people watching you can spend time there watching the locals buying fresh ingredients for their evening meal when they stop there after a long day of work.
We first heard about Rue Cler while researching our Paris trip. Rick Steves mentions Rue Cler glowingly in his Paris travel guide. Since this was our first trip to Paris, and we trust Rick Steves, we went with his recommendation and stayed at one of his recommended hotel, which turned out to be wonderful.
Public Market areas are a joy to visit, no matter what city you are in.
